You don’t have to be in Bombay for some sweet shop love
Bombay Sweet Shop is now available for dessert aficionados across India, with some drool worthy savoury options to boot.
What Bombay Sweet Shop has skillfully managed to capture is the nostalgia of authentic Indian mithai and millennial flavours. Bringing alive the sweet shop of the past, they’ve quickly become one of the city’s favourite spots for gifts or a little bit of self-love.
Now, however, the magic of this mithai comes to you. There’s no more waiting for someone to come over from Bombay, for India’s favourite new-age sweets and namkeen from Bombay Sweet Shop are now available in your city.
To give you a preview into the delicious offerings that await you, there’s Bombay’s 3-Layer Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Butterscotch Barks, Toffee Butterscotch Cookies, Indian Jujubes, Bombay Bhel Chikki, and so much more. If that’s got you salivating already, you’re not prepared for the Khasta Kachori, Chilli Cheese Bhujiya and other equally indulgent savoury options up for grabs!
All you need to do is head to their website or Amazon to order a gift or cake package. Or maybe both. At the heart of Bombay Sweet Shop lies the philosophy of bringing old fashioned sweetness in a whole new avatar. Handmade, preservative-free and packaged hygienically and aesthetically – here is a selection of sweets and savouries like you’ve never come across before.
Each of their offerings are rooted in fond memories of the past, like the Chocolate Butterscotch Barks for instance. Inspired by the brittle candy texture of the Karak Sohan Halwa from Lucknow, this sharp-edged dark chocolate and butterscotch brittle is loaded with crunch and a sprinkle of almonds and sea salt.
The Bombay’s 3-Layer Chocolate Fudge is available only on their website. It comes with two layers of 70% dark chocolate peda sandwiched with peanut chikki and 55% dark chocolate ganache, topped with peanut cashew tuile. Coming in strong are the Indian Jujubes, a BSS version of the Karachi Halwa.
Bombay Sweet Shop is playing a strong savoury game too. An ode to the snacking culture in India is the Bombay Bhel Chikki, where crunchy, sweet and savoury elements come together in a bar packed with chakli, salli, chips, sev, gathia, nuts and bhel held together with jaggery. Also on the menu is the Super Crunch Chikki Bar where we take the best part of a chikki – its crunch – and dial it right up! For every bar, we toss a bag of roasted nuts, toasted seeds, puffed amaranth and rose petals into a pool of sticky jaggery.
The cookies in turn are inspired by Nankhatai, an eternal Indian teatime confectionery. Get your hands on crumbly Indian Cookies that are gluten-free and rich in nostalgia made with rice flour, besan, ghee and dusted with icing sugar. If you are looking for something more indulgent, order the Toffee Butterscotch Cookies. These melt-in-your-mouth cookies are made with refined flour, rice flour, butter and chewy toffee bits. These are just the beginnings of what’s sure to be a full and wholesome tea, replete with some sweets and snacks for a true desi spin to the rapidly growing high tea culture.
Bombay Sweet Shop (a part of Hunger Inc. Hospitality, that also owns and manages The Bombay Canteen and O Pedro in Mumbai) is a celebratory offering that reimagines Indian sweets and mithai and is 100% vegetarian.
